Join us Sunday mornings at 10:25 a.m. for some story telling!

Throughout the Easter season (which is Easter and the 6 weeks following) we will be taking a closer look at what it means to tell the stories of Jesus. How do you talk about him with others? Who is he? What did he do? How did he speak? We’ll explore this and more!

A note from Pastor Jennifer Applegate

April 12, 2024

Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

“Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali,
on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles—
the people who sat in darkness
    have seen a great light,
and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death
    light has dawned.”

From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” – Matthew 4: 12 – 17

Dear Friends,

I return from vacation rested and ready for the Spring season! You may want to buckle up as I come back with renewed energy! Throughout the Easter season (which is Easter and the 6 weeks following) we will be taking a closer look at what it means to tell the stories of Jesus. How do you talk about him with others? Who is he? What did he do? How did he speak? We’ll explore this and more!

We begin this week with the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. He just came off his 40 days in the wilderness to hear the news that John the Baptist had been arrested. It was now time for Jesus’ public ministry to begin. And, how does it begin – with the shocking pronouncement that the kingdom of heaven is near! Living under the oppressive thumb of the Roman Empire, this surely would have caught the ears of the Jewish people.

God’s kingdom is revolutionary. It is the ushering in of a new dawn, a new day, a new type of community. This is good news! How are we sharing this good news with others? What stories are we telling? Those will be our guiding questions throughout this series. I look forward to the journey with you!

I’ll see you in worship on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 10:25 a.m. in person or online at https://www.facebook.com/WilliamStreetUMC/.
